How We Test
Every tool goes through a standardized testing protocol. We measure cutting speed, battery life, ergonomics, build quality, and value for money. We don't accept manufacturer samples or sponsored placements. Read our full testing methodology.
Our Revenue Model
We earn money through Amazon affiliate links. When you click a product link and make a purchase, we receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how we fund tool purchases and keep the site running.
Editorial Independence
Affiliate commissions never influence our ratings or recommendations. We've given negative reviews to tools from brands that generate significant affiliate revenue. Our credibility is more valuable than any commission.
Who Reviews the Tools
Jake Mercer
Jake spent 14 years as a licensed general contractor in the Pacific Northwest before shifting to full-time tool testing and reviews. He's framed houses, finished basements, and built more decks than he can count -- which means he knows exactly which tools fail on a real jobsite and which ones earn a permanent spot in the truck.
He started ToolShedTested because he was tired of reviews written by people who had never actually used the tools they were recommending. Every tool on this site passes through his hands before it gets a recommendation.
