How to pick a tool gift he will use
Match the battery platform first. A bare tool on the wrong battery is the most common tool-gift mistake. If he already owns DEWALT 20V MAX, Milwaukee M18 or Ryobi ONE+ tools, check the battery on any tool in the garage and buy within that family. If you cannot check, a complete kit that includes batteries and a charger is the safe choice.
Buy the kit, not the bare tool, for a first platform. Product names ending in a B (for example DCF887B) are usually bare tools. Kits list the batteries and charger in the title.
Small gifts work when they solve a daily annoyance. A good bit set, a magnetic light or a compact socket set gets used every week, which is why the stocking stuffer and under $100 guides lean on those.
Check the delivery date on the Amazon listing. Prices and delivery estimates change daily, so we do not print them. The listing shows the current price and the expected arrival before you buy.
These guides are written by George Perkins. Guides where he has used the tools himself are marked Hands-on tested by George; the rest are research-based and say so. Read how George tests.
